Advanced Spectroscopy In Chemistry

Progetto europeo E+, KA1 Learning Mobility International

Abstract
The Master's course in Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry (ASC Master) is a two-year (120 ECTS) programme, entirely taught in English and jointly operated by five universities, (the ASC Consortium): Alma Mater University of Bologna, Italy, University Lille1, France, Jagiellonian University of Krakow, Poland, University Leipzig, Germany and University of Helsinki, Finland.

The ASC programme includes a mandatory mobility of students within the ASC Consortium, based on their choice of a specialization according to our partners' expertise, and it leads to the award of multiple degree diplomas with a joint diploma supplement.

The ASC Joint Master's course focuses on spectroscopic analysis methodologies, not on chemistry, thus providing chemistry students with all necessary tools in the most advanced spectroscopic techniques, at the highest level, which they are able to apply to the research domain of chemistry of their choice. Their career plan is therefore not narrowed down, as our network covers all areas in which they can choose to assert themselves. More than 80 % of ASC graduates chose to engage in a PhD project. They are  great assets for industries in a broad range of activities (manufacturers of the secondary sector, sustainable development and environmental pollution, health, biomedical and pharmaceutical field).

The ASC Master's course provides all students with various transversal skills (competencies in entrepreneurship, project management, bibliographical search and synthesis in link with industry and knowledge of REACH legislation and intellectual property issues).  Additionally, during the 2 years of the programme (integration week, 4th semester research project,  lab courses, theoretical course units) they will have opportunities to acquire other soft skills (intercultural communication, research experience and scientific communication, national language of their host universities)  enabling them to easily adapt to their future international professional environment.
