The Head of the Department is normally an ordinary professor; he remains in charge for three years and he's renewable only once.
He is elected by the Department Council and appoints a Deputy Director, who ensures his functions in the event of his absence or impediment.
It has functions of direction, initiative and coordination of the scientific and didactic activities of the Department, is responsible for the implementation of what has been deliberated by the collegial bodies, directs and coordinates the technical and administrative staff on the basis of the provisions of the Organization Regulations, supervises the research activity , taking care of the evaluation, and the distribution of didactic tasks between professors and researchers of the Department, according to the University guidelines on didactic programming and supervises the fulfillment of these tasks.
